Our Therapy Approaches

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

A therapeutic approach that focuses on helping individuals develop the skills necessary for management of intense emotions, the improvement of relationships, and the creation of healthy coping mechanisms. DBT aims to help individuals create a balance between accepting themselves as they are and making changes that improve their lives.

Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS)

A therapeutic approach that is founded on the concept that each individual has an internal system of “parts” that represent different aspects of their personality, experiences, and emotions. IFS therapy is used to help individuals work towards recognising, understanding, and healing these parts. Individuals may then begin to move toward greater self-compassion, emotional regulation, and integration.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy (MBT)

A therapeutic approach that focuses on integrating mindfulness practices, like breath work and meditation, with traditional talk therapy to help individuals become more aware of their thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations without becoming overwhelmed. MBT emphasises the practice of being present in the moment without judgement. This therapeutic approach can be helpful for treatment of anxiety, depression, PTSD, and chronic pain as it strengthens emotional regulation and resilience.

Trauma-Focused Care

Trauma-focused practices recognise the widespread impact of trauma on individuals and seeks to create a safe, supportive environment for therapeutic healing. It is based on the understanding that trauma can affect a person’s physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Trauma focused care is not just about treating the individual trauma itself but also about creating a therapeutic environment that fosters safety, trust, and empowerment.

Individuals

Individual therapy is a confidential, one-on-one process where an individual works with a trained therapist to explore personal challenges. The goal is to help the individual understand their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours while developing coping strategies and healthier ways of thinking. This type of therapy can address a variety of issues, such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship struggles.

What to Expect

Contract & Consent

Upon scheduling our first session together, you will receive an electronic contract and consent form to complete and sign. Take your time reading through it and don’t hesitate to ask questions as you’re reviewing the information. We are happy to answer any and all questions you may have or provide further clarification!

Assessment & Defining Goals

During our initial session, we will get to know one another and collaboratively explore what has brought you to therapy. As we near the end of the first session, we'll define what goals you would like to work towards during our time together.

Collaboration & Feedback

Throughout our time together, I will be regularly checking in to ensure you are feeling comfortable and confident with our work. Practitioner feedback is always welcomed in order to ensure you are getting the most out of our sessions. Collaboration is key! If necessary, we will adjust our treatment plan to accommodate these needs.

Exploration & Deeper Understanding

Psychotherapy is centered around helping individuals to explore their thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and past experiences in a safe and non-judgemental setting. Through our sessions you will develop a deeper understanding of your lived experiences and will learn helpful coping strategies for future challenges. It is important to note that unlike psychologists or psychiatrists, psychotherapists cannot diagnose or prescribe medication. If required, a referral can be made to the appropriate professional on the client’s behalf.
